PURPOSE:To easily red the flow of a document of a part connected to a line, by constituting the titled device so that the contents of a display screen can be rewritten to the contents which always contain the line end of a line of one line before of a line in which a cursor is being displayed at present, in accordance with an instruction from an input device. CONSTITUTION:When a 'previous line' display key is inputted, input information of a 'previous line' instruction key 14 is transmitted from the whole controller 5, and a display controller 7 confirms a cursor position by seeing the contents of the present cursor display position register. Subsequently, the display control ler 7 reads out the document contents of the (A-1)-th line from a temporary memory device 3 through the whole controller 5, and confirms the line end position of the (A-1)-th line. If a line feed mark exists on the way of the line, its line feed mark is set as the line end, and unless the line feed mark exists,the contents of a one line character number register are set as the number of line end digits C, and in order to rewrite the contents of a display screen, a display head character register is rewritten.
