A rifle has a housing (1), which accommodates the breech, and an operating part, which is arranged centrally on the top of the piston neck and is connected via a slide rod (7) or the like to a support (6) for a set trigger stop (3, 5) or the like which is stressed by the force of the firing bolt spring when the breech is cocked. The operating part consists of a disc (8) which is in the form of a sector, is supported such that it can rotate in a partially cylindrical recess (9) at the rear end of the housing (1), has a segment section which projects upwards out of a housing slot (10) (which is matched to it), and on which the slide rod (7) or the like is articulated eccentrically. In order to prevent accidental arming, the disc (8) which can be rotated backwards for making safe is supported without play on a bolt (11) which is mounted in the housing (1). Said disc (8) has a cutout (13) which is directed to the rear from the region of its front circumferential end like a chord and in which a locking element (16) can be displaced, which locking element is pressed outwards in a limited manner by a spring (12). In the safe position, this locking element is located behind the front edge (15), which is used as a stop, of the housing slot (10). <IMAGE>
