The ventilating device for the roofs of buildings comprises a housing, which bounds a ventilating opening and the walls of which lie in parallel opposite one another in pairs, and a plurality of pivotably movable flaps which are in the form of lamellae, which, in their closed position, overlap one another in the direction transverse with respect to their flap axes, which engage over the walls, at the top border thereof, of the housing carrying them and which fully cover the ventilating opening in the housing and protect it from the weather. At its ends, each flap is provided with an end wall extending downwards beyond the base wall of the flap and exhibits, on the rear border, a collecting and discharge gutter for water and an outer wall which adjoins said gutter and whose surface first of all rises relatively steeply in an initial part, bordering the base of the collecting and discharge gutter, passes into a more gently rising main part and, from a culmination line, runs out into an end part which is bent downwards to a slight extent. In the region of the initial part of the surface of the outer wall there is fitted an upright deflector lip which extends parallel to the collecting and discharge gutter and, by means of its ends, projects in each case beyond the end walls of the flap.
