PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high polymerization degree formed article outstanding in heat and solvent resistances and mechanical strength, by using an aromatic polyester of specified viscosity constituted by structural unit consisting of bisphenol S unit and isophthalic acid one. CONSTITUTION:The objective formed article can be obtained by using an aromatic polyester constituted by structural unit of formula, with a logarithmic viscosity >=0.45 determined in the form of an orthochlorophenol solution of a concentration 0.5g/dl at 25 deg.C. Said aromatic polyester can be prepared, for example, by the following process: first isophthaloyl dichloride is dissolved in a solvent prepared by distillation and purification, in the presence of 0.1-10wt% of isophthaloyl dichloride or terephthaloyl dichloride, of methylene dichloride. Following that, the resultant organic solvent solution and an aqueous alkaline solution of bisphenol S treated at 60-80 deg.C for 0.1-5hr are brought to interfacial polycondensation using as a catalyst a phosphonium salt.
