The invention relates to a writing instrument with a housing and with a clip, having a web which can be moved in the housing transversely to the longitudinal median axis of the writing instrument, which clip can be retracted into or brought out from a recess. Moreover, the writing instrument has a pressure member possessing a control surface interacting with the web, which pressure member is connected to a switching and locking mechanism for advancing and retracting a writing medium carrier which is subject to the action of a spring. In this arrangement, the clip can be actuated in the manner of a push-button and the web bears the switching and locking mechanism and interacts with the writing medium carrier via the control surface.
