PURPOSE:To obtain a Cu alloy for a terminal and a connector having superior resistance to migration and stress corrosion cracking and superior electric conductivity by alloying Cu with specified amounts of Sn, Ni, P and Zn. CONSTITUTION:Cu is charged into a kryptol furnace by about 80% of the amount of Cu used. After the surface of the charged Cu is covered with charcoal so as to inhibit oxidation, the Cu is melted by heating. Ni is added to the molten Cu at 1,200 deg.C, and after the added Ni melts in the molten Cu, Sn is added and melted. the remaining about 20% Cu is then added to lower the temp. of the molten metal to 1180-1190 deg.c and P and Zn are added and agitated. The resulting molten alloy is poured into a casting mold to produce a Cu alloy contg., by weight, 1.5-2.5% Sn, 0.1-0.5% Ni, 0.025-0.05% P and 1.2-5% Zn. The Cu alloy for a terminal and a connector has superior migration resistance.
