In the device for determining the position of a vehicle, which has a receptacle suitable for transporting containers, relative to a container hoist, the hoist (2, 12) is equipped, preferably on its travel beam (9, 9'), with at least two sensors (S1, S2) which operate on the basis of ultrasound and have axes (10) aligned in parallel, and the vehicle (16) is equipped with reflectors (F1, ...) at least on one side. The distance (a) of the reflectors from one another corresponds to that of the sensors from one another. The number of the reflectors of the, or each side of the vehicle, and that of the sensors amount to a total of six.
