PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of a Cu-Zn-Al type shape memory alloy without changing the transformation temp. or deteriorating the workability by coating the surface of the shape memory alloy with a Cu-Al, Cu-Zn or Cu-Zn- Al alloy having a specified composition or Cu as a shell material. CONSTITUTION:A Cu-Zn-Al type shape memory alloy is filled into a pipe of 1mm thickness made of a Cu alloy cong. <10wt% Zn and/or <8wt% Al or further contg. <=0.3wt% in total of one or more among Si, Mg and Mn as deoxidizers. The filled pipe is cold drawn and subjected to recrystallization heat treatment and final working to form a wire. The outer pipe-shaped alloy acts as a shell material 2 on the shape memory alloy 1, so the corrosion resistance of the shape memory alloy is remarkably improved without changing the shape memory capacity or the transformation temp.
