摘要 PURPOSE:To attain a fast and accurate straight line approximating system without requiring the memory capacity at a boundary point, by applying both the boundary point extraction and the straight line approximation at a time. CONSTITUTION:Both an input means 101 and a binary-coding/quantizing means 102 give prescribed processing to an obtained optional graphic form 111. Thus a quantized binary image 112 is obtained. A boundary point comparing means 108 compares a quantized straight line 116 obtained by a trend direction deciding means 104, a vector producing means 105 and a quantized straight line means 106 with a graphic boundary point 117 by means of a graphic contour code 113 obtained by a boundary tracking/coding means 103 with respect to the image 112. In such a way, a straight line is approximated. That is, both the boundary point extracting and the straight line approximation are carried out at a time for the graphic form 111. Then the straight line is approximated just by comparing the supposed straight line 116 with the boundary point 117.
