PURPOSE:To maintain sufficient suitability for ink jet recording and obtain recorded images with sufficient light resistance, water resistance or the like, by using a recording liquid comprising at least water, an organic solvent and a water-soluble dye, in which at least one acidic group of the dye forms a salt with a basic nickel compound. CONSTITUTION:When a water-soluble dye is dissolved in water and an appropriate acid is added to the resultant solution to adjust the pH to the acidic side, the dye in the form of a sodium salt comes to separate out in the state of a free acid. When the dye is dissolved or dispersed in an appropriate solvent and a required amount of a basic nickel compound is added thereto, an acidic group of the dye forms a salt with the nickel ion. The dye in the state of the nickel salt thus formed shows sufficient suitability for ink jet recording, such as sufficient dissolution stability and preservation stability, when the pH of the resultant liquid is maintained on the acidic side, preferably, at a pH of 4-6. The solvent used for an ink is a mixed solvent of water and a water-soluble organic solvent. It is preferable that the organic solvent comprises a polyhydric alcohol having an effect on prevention of drying of the ink, and water is deionized water. |
