PURPOSE:To facilitate forming of a shape memory alloy pipe by inserting a mandrel into a cylinder made of the alloy, reducing the cylinder and mandrel integrally, and pulling out the mandrel after a heat treatment for memorization of a shape. CONSTITUTION:A 1mm thick Ni-Ti alloy sheet is formed into a 10mm diameter cylindrical shape, the sheet is welded by TIG welding to make a cylinder, and an 8mm diameter stainless steel bar as a mandrel is inserted into the cylinder. The composite material are cold drawn to 2mm diameter. After the 2mm diameter composite material is cut by 50cm long, a heat treatment at 500 deg.C for 20min for memorization is applied to the material and then the mandrel is pulled out to obtain the pipe displaying a good shape effect. The reduction is facilitated because the cylinder and the mandrel are drawn integrally. Furthermore, the pipe is made to have a little larger diameter by the above heat treatment, so that the mandrel is easily pulled out and the shape memory alloy pipe is formed very simply.
