ceto phenone of formula(II) was reacted with OHC-COOR to give (III), which was reacted with dehydrating agent to give(I). In formula, the methoxy gps. are at 3,4,5; 2,4,6; 2,4,5; 2,3,5, or 2,3,6 positions. A and B together complete a double bond, or A is H and B is hydroxy (R is H or C1-5 alkyl). (I) have antiulcer, gastric antisecretony and cytoprotective activities and can be used to treat e.g. hyperchlorhydria, ulcers, gastritis and hiatus hernia.
