PURPOSE:To obtain a natural image without any mistake by providing an exposure switching means which switches the step of a camera lens to the 1st set value in response to a rear-light detection signal and to the 2nd set value in response to a highlight detection signal. CONSTITUTION:Photosensors 40 and 42 are provided almost in front of and above a camera body, and when the output voltage Sa of the front photosensor 40 is the 1st specific level EC1 higher than the output voltage Sb of the upper photosensor 42, but not the 2nd specific level EC2 higher, comparison output signals CW1 and CW2 are '1' and '0' and a rear-light state is decided. Further, when the output voltage SA of the front photosensor 40 is the 2nd specific level EC' higher than the output voltage Sb of the upper photosensor 42, the comparison output signals CW1 and CW2 are '1' and '1' and a highlight state is decided. The comparison output signals CS1 and CW2 switch switches 50 and 52, and consequently exposure correcting and AGC switching operations are performed according to the rear-light or highlight state.
