PURPOSE:To obtain an ingot having good surface quality by forming an electromagnetic coil, whose magnetic flux is non-dense at upward and dense at downward, on the inside wall of a cooling jacket so as to make not necessary to equip a sheltering screen for the magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:The annular Cu-made electromagnetic coil 1 is arranged to form the inner wall of the cooling jacket 5 in the mold for electromagnetic field casting of molten metal 3, and the magnetic flux, generated by the electromagnetic coil 1, is formed to be non-dense at upward and to be dense at downward. By this magnetic field, the electromagnetic force, which works toward center at the surface layer part of the molten metal block 3, is generated, and so the molten metal block 3 having a perpendicular side face is formed, and by cooling the lower part of this block 3 by cooling water 7 injecting from the cooling water jacket 5, the molten metal 3 is solidified, to form the ingot 4. As the ingot 4 is formed without any contacting with the solid surface, the ingot 4 having excellent surface quality is obtd. |
