PURPOSE:To enable favorable printing to be performed for a long period of time, by a construction wherein a feeding passage for an ink ribbon is changed on receiving a signal of detection of a polishing tape part of the ribbon, and a recording electrode is set to a predetermined angle, thereby polishing the electrode. CONSTITUTION:When a polishing tape part 13 comprising an insulator and provided at a leading end part of an ink ribbon 4 is fitted between a payout reel 6 and a take-up reel 11, a controlling part 12 starts a payout roller 7, a feeding roller 10 and the reels 6, 11, and moves a movable guide 9 to the position indicated by a solid line. Then, a feeding path for the polishing tape part 13 is changed by the guide 9, so that the tape part 13 is wrapped around a recording head 1 at a large wrapping angle, and is fed while pressing the head 1, thereby polishing the tip of the head 1 into an arcuate shape. When the ink ribbon 4 is fed past the roller 7 and the roller 10, printing on a recording paper 5 by the head 1 is started. Since the tip of the head 1 is polished into an arcuate shape, the pressure with which the head 1 is pressed against the paper 5 is increased, and clear printing can be achieved. |
