PURPOSE:To decrease the influence of extraneous materials and to make measurement with high sensitivity by immobilizing an L-tyrosine decarboxylase onto a gas permeable membrane of a carbon dioxide electrode. CONSTITUTION:The L-tyrosine in, for example, a soln. such as bodily fluid is dispersed into tyramine and carbon dioxide by the effect of the L-tyrosine decarboxylase. The formed carbon dioxide is permeated through the gas permeable membrane immobilized with the L-tyrosine decarboxylase and the carbon dioxide permeated through said membrane is metabolized by selectively metabolizable microorganisms. The decrease of the oxygens concn. generated at this time is measured as a current value by an oxygen electrode and the change of the carbon dioxide is known from the change rate of the current value, by which the concn. of the L-tyrosine is measured. Since this L-tyrosine sensor uses the amperometic carbon dioxide electrode using the microorganisms as a transducer, the quick measurement of the L-tyrosine with high sensitivity is made possible and the measurement is less influenced by the extraneous materials.
