NEW MATERIAL:A phthalimidine derivative expressed by formula I (R<1> is halocarbonyl or halosulfonyl; R<2> is H or OCH3; X and Y together may form methylenedioxy). EXAMPLE:4-(2-Phthalimidyl)benzoyl chloride. USE:A fluorescent deriving reagent for alcohols, phenols, oximes, amines, amino acids or peptides useful for detecting and determining very small amounts of substances, e.g. various enzymes, narcotics, medicines or metabolites thereof, etc. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III (or formula V) to give a compound expressed by formula IV (or formula VI), which is then reacted with a normal halogenating agent (or halosulfonic acid) to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula Ia (or formula Ib) (Hal is halogen).
