Monitoring system for artillery missiles - operates in shore defence area where target is water-borne using radar and underwater sonar detectors

Artillery weapons, e.g. guns and rocket batteries are ranged around a bay or other protected waterway, in which a target zone is surrounded by an exclusion zone. The latter is marked off by buoys to warn off vessels, esp. trawlers. On the shore is a command post in a transportable container. Connected to the command post are a radar system and an underwater sonar detection system. The radar system monitors the flight of the missiles and detects their impact on the water surface i.e. 'splash spotting'. The sonar transmitter/receivers are located on the sea bottom at the four corners of the target zone, and detect the positions of the missles when they reach the sea bottom. The outputs of the detrction system are recorded and analysed by a data processing system inside the command post.
