The two walking surfaces, one for each foot, run between two support rails which can be grasped by the patient if necessary. The surfaces bow downwards and deliver pressure to hydraulic pressure sensors at intervals along the path as the patient walks along it. Each sensor is linked to a display which indicates the pressure. Alternatively each floor section consists of an extruded metal channel in which a flat surface is supported by torsion blocks set in silicone buffers. Across the width of each section is a tubular assembly which has strain gauges in its centre. The strain gauge outputs are connected via data processing equipment to a display terminal.
