The ten selection push-buttons (5) carry the numbers nought to nine on their upper surfaces. Above each key is a legend showing three possible alphabetic characters or control functions which are also selectable using the key. The required number character or other function of the key is selected by simultaneous selection of pressures on the two function strips (6,7) alongside the push-buttons. The strips are ergonomically positioned so that two fingers can rest on top off them and exercise pressure when necessary, leaving the other fingers to operate the push-buttons (5).
