Continuous prepn. of bis (tri:chloro:methyl)-sulphone

The process comprises oxidation and chlorination of dimethyl sulphoxide in a reactor 1, with dispensing of the sulphoxide and of caustic soda. Chlorine gas bubbling at above 38 degrees C gives a dense oil, which is extracted by suction and pumping via a positive displacement pump 2. The parent liquor saturated with sodium chloride which is eliminated by a battery of filters 6, goes to a reactor line 7.
