PURPOSE:To make a side member properly into crush deformation crosswise in time of a longitudinal car crash as well as to aim at improvements in an energyabsorbing characteristic, by joining one side of corner angular parts of a bottom wall to the inside of the side member with a reinforcing bridge straddled stantwise. CONSTITUTION:With a longitudinal car crash, axial external force acts on a rear side member 2, also acting on it as torsional load, while it acts on a direction of falling down to the floor central side at an archedly bent part nearby a rear wheel house. In contrast with this, a reinforcing bridge 6 straddle slantwise is joined with a corner angular part Ca at the floor central side of the rear side member 2 whereby it functions as a strut member keeping an angle of the corner angular part Ca. Accordingly, this reinforcing bridge 6 sufficiently copes with the torsional load in the falling direction whereby falling deformation toward the floor central side of the area side member 2 is preventable, As a result, the rear side member 2 can be made into crush deformation properly in the axial direction, thus an energy absorbing characteristic is securable as specified. |
