PURPOSE:To improve the work efficiency by automatically separating and dropping the spatter adhering to an nozzle, by forming a shielding nozzle with a shape memory alloy as well as providing the means varying the feeding state of a cooling water. CONSTITUTION:The shielding nozzle consisting of a bidirectional shape memory alloy is set in its transformation temp. at the intermediate temp. between the temp. to be heated and the temp. to be cooled according to the feeding state of a cooling water. In the state of a valve 8 being open by the work of a timer 9, the nozzle is cooled with the cooling water being fed and in the state of the valve 8 being close or reduced the nozzle is heated by the arc heat. The deformation of the nozzle is caused periodically with the actuation of the timer 9 and accordingly the spatters deposited at the tip and on the inner face of the nozzle are easily separated and dropped.
