PURPOSE:To almost uniform rise characteristics near a threshold voltage and to improve the wavelength dependency of transmissivity even if visual sense is turned to an oblique direction in additon to the front direction by twisting the polarizing axis direction of a polarizing plate in one direction out of the long axis direction and short axis direction of liquid crystal molecules applied to the surface of a polariz ing plate side substrate. CONSTITUTION:About respective polarizing axes of an analyzer 1 and a polarizer 2 arranged on both the sides of a liquid crystal cell, the direction 5a of the polarizing axis of the polarizer 2 is rotated around the long axis direction of the liquid crystal molecules on the polarizer side glass substrate 3 in the negative direction and the direction 5b of the polarizing axis of the analyzer 1 is rotated around the short axis direction of the liquid crystal molecules on the substrate 3 in the positive direction when the twisting direction P of the liquid crystal molecule axes is positive. Simultane ously with said rotation, a dichromatic coloring matter whose maximum absorbing wavelength is included in a visual light range is mixed in nematic liquid crystal to be host crystal. Even if the visual sense is turned to the oblique direction in addition to the front direction, the wavelength dependency of transmissivity can be extremely improved. |
