PURPOSE:To suppress induced Raman dispersion by an optical fiber with simple structure by twisting a single mode optical fiber at the rate of 0.1 times - once per meter. CONSTITUTION:Alight source 1 makes a light beam with >=0.1w peak power incident upon an optical fiber 2, the fiber 2 is twisted at the rate of 0.1 times/m - once/m and a photodetector 3 measures the light beam transmitted through the fiber 2. Since the fiber 2 is twisted, mechanical distortion is generated in the fiber 2 and the plane of polarization of the light beam is rotated by the distortion. Since the rotation angle of the polarizing plane is changed by the wavelength in each fixed fiber length, the polarizing plane of excited light is gradually shifted from that of induced Raman dispersion light in the twisted optical fiber 2. Thereby, the induced Raman dispersion light can not be effectively amplified, so that the induced Raman dispersion light can be reduced as compared to the use of an untwisted optical fiber.
