1,119,177. Screwing-up studs; machine tool details. SOC. DES AUTOMOBILES SIMCA. 25 Oct., 1965 [27 Oct., 1964], No. 45150/65. Headings B3B and B3N. A machine for screwing studs 8 into a workpiece 7 comprises a bed 1, a spindle head 3 slidable on the bed between stops 4, 5, a rotary shaft 6 connected to a spindle 12 by a socket 10, and a bevel closing collet 24 in the spindle actuated by a spring-urged draw-bar 40. The collet has jaws 36 which are internally screw threaded, and is rotated by the spindle through balls and grooves 32, 31. In operation, stud 8 is started into the workpiece 7 by hand, head 3 is pulled back against stop 5, and the spindle is located in the position of Fig. 2. Head 3 is advanced until stud 8 abuts draw-bar 40 and moves it rearwardly to compress springs 48, 27. The collet closes on to the stud, spring 15 is compressed, and head 3 continues to advance up to stop 4. The spindle is rotated, and the stud is screwed into the workpiece 7 until a torque limiting device stops the spindle. |
