In an edge-trimming shear arranged at the side of a roller bed a device for facilitating the removal and replacement of the shear blades and their mountings comprises a carriage 10 guided on rails 9 and moved by a motordriven chain 26. Mounted in the carriage is a vertical fluid pressure cylinder 11 which carries on its piston-rod a support 14. Projecting vertically from the support are pegs 13 which engage in recesses 20 formed in the holder 4 for the upper blade 3. Also mounted on the support 14 is a fluid pressure cylinder 15 the piston-rod of which moves parallel to the rails 9, and which is connected to a set of pegs 18 which engage recesses 19 in the holder 7 of the lower blade 6. At the rear of the shear is a frame 21 which runs on rails 23 transverse to the rails 9, and which has two pairs of carrying arms 22 and 22<SP>1</SP>. Operation.-The support 14 is raised so that the pegs 13 engage the recesses 20, the upper blade holder 4 is unbolted and lowered with the support. The cylinder 15 is then operated so that the pegs 18 engage the lower blade and then both blades and their holders are moved on the carriage 10 to the rear of the shear where the blades are deposited on the arms 22. The frame 21 is then moved transversely of the rails 9 so that a set of sharpened blades resting on the arms 22<SP>1</SP> can be transferred to the carriage 10. In a modification, for use with a cropping shear arranged transversely of a roller bed the blade units are moved transversely of the roller bed and deposited on a carriage running on rails which are parallel to the bed.</p> |
