PURPOSE:To easily and rapidly manufacture a preform for composite material having 0.3-0.6 bulk density excellent in dimensional stability, by infiltrating carbon fibers having prescribed length, diameter, strength, and elastic modulus with matrix material. CONSTITUTION:The carbon fibers having 10-18mum diameter, 150-500kg/mm<2> single yarn breaking strength, and 30-80t/mm<2> modulus of elasticity for tension are cut into <=2mm length. These carbon fibers are subjected, together with a binder, to kneading, molding, and drying, so that medium-density perform for composite material having 0.3-0.6 bulk density can be obtained. |
