PURPOSE:To discriminate whether a fold of recording paper is correct or not, by installing such a device that detects passing time of the recording paper having been fed out of a folder. CONSTITUTION:The recording paper conveyed by paired inlet rollers 30 and 31 is led into a paper pass 33 by operation of a deflector 32, from which it is discharged onto a stacker 5 by paired paper discharge rollers 34 and 36. Pulse numbers in a paper presence period signal out of a sensor are counter whereby length of the folded recording paper detected is judged by a microcomputer. Supposing that the recording paper is detected by the sensor, the signal corresponding to the length becomes halved. Accordingly, at the microcomputer, when it judges that a fold is incorrect, stapling is prohibited, and the incorrectly folded recording paper is discharged to a lower tray 43 with a stopper rotated, without being fed to a staple part 6.
