NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R<1> is H or CH3; R<2> and R<3> are 1-12C hydrocarbon group; X is halogen except F; l and m are 1-3; n is 0-4). EXAMPLE:p-Bis(beta-methacryloyloxyethylthio)xylylene. USE:Capable of being subjected to cast molding to give a cured material having high refractive index. Providing a resin having high refractive index of >=1.55 and providing a transparent cured material. PREPARATION:A sulfur-containing polyol shown by formula II is reacted with an acylating agent shown by formula III (X<1> is halogen or OH) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g., sulfuric acid) in a solvent such as benzene, etc., to give a compound shown by formula. The reaction is carried out by using 2-6mol, preferably 2-3mol acylating agent shown by formula III based on 1mol compound shown by formula II and 0.01-0.5mol catalyst.
