The invention relates to an adjustable fastening device comprising two elements 22, 34 capable of moving with respect to one another in a sliding relationship during a headlight adjusting operation, one 22 of the said elements being securely fastened to the headlight and the other 34 being able to be fixed to the bodywork 56 of the vehicle by a screw 52, the device further comprising an elastic locking member 46 capable of interacting with the second element and with the screw, and comprising at least one hooking edge 46a, the tightening of the said screw initially bringing about the bearing of the second element against the bodywork of the vehicle and then, by using this bearing, the elastic deformation of the said member 46 and the engagement of the fixing edge or edges 46a with the first element 22 so as to lock the two elements in their relative positions corresponding to the desired adjustment. Application to fastening a motor vehicle headlight with adjustment of the alignment of its enclosing lens with respect to the bodywork. <IMAGE>
