A process is described for gasifying solid, carbon-containing material, in dust to piece form, in particular coal, with an oxidising agent and steam at elevated pressure, in which process, for complete conversion of the residual carbon, the solids discharged upwards from at least two fluidised-bed reactors, after separating off product gas, are fed to a collective dust gasification reactor.
