The invention concerns a device for restricting the downwards motion of a lift, with a limiter wheel driven according to the cage speed, that can be blocked by a device when the cage is at a standstill, so that a safety catch for the cage is triggered if the cage sinks slowly. The device blocking the limiter wheel possesses a part that engages with the limiter wheel when the cage is at a standstill. This part has a limited amount of play so that it can perform a limited motion with the limiter wheel when in the position engaging with, and especially coupled to, the limiter wheel, before blocking the limiter wheel. <IMAGE>
