A boring bar 10 comprises a sleeve 22 having a conical surface 24 which seats on a corresponding surface 16 in a bore 14, in the boring bar, a screw 40 screwed into the sleeve and abutting a shoulder 20 in the bore, and a tungsten carbide tipped boring tool 54 adjustably carried in sleeve 22. The bore 32 of the sleeve has keyways 38 for keys 58 on tool 54, and also a conical seat 30 for a graduated ring 48 screwed on to the tool. Tool 54 can first be adjusted to the required position on a replica of bar 10 which acts as a jig, and then placed in the working bar and clamped by screw 40. The tool is adjusted in sleeve 22 by ring 48, and is then locked in the sleeve by a screw 62, and the sleeve is placed in bore 14 in a particular angular position which is determined by a key and slot 76, 74.</p> |
