PURPOSE:To cut an optical fiber into a specular surface by clamping terminal parts of the optical fiber cores at two positions and applying an initial tensile force, flawing the optical fiber from the cladding at the intermediate part with a flawing blade for a carbide chip, and increasing the tensile force in the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The terminal parts of the optical fiber core A which has the cladding layer on the optical fiber are clamped by left and right clamps 2 and 3. Then, the right clamp 3 is moved as shown by an arrow to give the initial tensile force F1 to the optical fiber core A and remove its slack, and the flawing blade 5 is brought into contact in this state and moved in a circumferential direction to make a flaw in the optical fiber from above the cladding. Further, the flaw is made shallowly and long and the specular surface perpendicular to the axis can be formed. Then, the right clamp 3 is moved as shown by an arrow to increase the tensile force, thereby cutting the optical fiber. |
