NEW MATERIAL:A bismaleimide of formula I (X is a divalent group selected from -S-, -CO-, -SO2-). USE:A monomer for heat-resistant polymers. The monomer is soluble in solvents and melts at low temperature and a polyamide resin therefrom can be expected to be soluble in solvents and flexible. Further, it can be melt-polymerized in the absence of solvents to reduce troubles of the remaining solvents which might cause deterioration of laminating or formed products. Further, it improves operability, saves energy consumption and is used as an electric insulator, heat- resistant adhesive, coating, etc. PREPARATION:The condensation reaction between a diamine bearing an ether linkage of formula II and maleic anhydride is carried out in an organic solvent such as acetone. Then, acetic anhydride is used as dehydration agent to effect dehydrative cyclization of the product in the presence of a base such as triethylamine and a catalyst such as magnesium oxide and cobalt (II) acetate to give the compound of formula I. |
