PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain the color image of a printed circuit board without using an expensive color TV camera, by successively emitting a plurality of lights having different colors to irradiate the board and converting the lights from the board to electric signals. CONSTITUTION:After a printed circuit board 25 to be inspected is fixed onto the table 24 of an X-Y table part 15, G-color light and B-color light are successively emitted from an illumination part 10 and the image of a printed circuit board 25-2 to be inspected is picked up by a monochromatic TV camera 9. Subsequently, the GB primary color images of parts 28-1-28-n are extracted from GB primary color image data using window information to form the subtraction video signals of G-B. The characteristic parameters of the parts 28-1-28-n are extracted from said subtraction video signals and compared with a reference parameter by a judge part 35 to check whether there are all of the parts 28-1-28-n or said parts generate positional shift.
