PURPOSE:To permit a driven shaft to rotate and to stop smoothly and securely for any optional period of time at any optional timing, by providing an intermittent gear and a pivotable gear for selectively compensating the intermittent portions of the intermittent gear. CONSTITUTION:A group of three stage gears constructing an intermittently power transmitting mechanism comprises a pair of intermittent gear ring trains 5, 7, a pair of lockingly stop ring trains 9, 10 corresponding to the intermittent gear ring trains 5, 7 and a pair of pivotally mounted moving gear ring trains 11, 12 for selectively compensating the intermittent portions of the intermittent gear ring trains. With such an arrangement, power is transmitted as if perfect gears are meshed usually. Further, a driven shaft is stopped by removing the moving gear ring train 12 from the intermittent portions of the intermittent gear by a trigger device. Furthermore, the lockingly stop ring trains 9, 10 permit the driven gear 5 to stop or to start rotation only at the positions where the driven gear 5 makes a prescribed synchronized mesh with the driving gear 7.
