PURPOSE:To adjust a gap of a read magnetic head by specifying a distance from a turning center position of a turning means up to a gap of the read magnetic head and the height from the turning center position to the gap of the read magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:For example, a bearing 11 is provided to a write assembly 1, a shaft 10 is provided to a read assembly 2, a spring 9 is clipped and combined with a screw 8. Then the spring 9 is expanded/contracted by the degree of tightening of the screw 8, and in fixing the write assembly 1, the read assembly 2 is turned around the shaft 10. In such a case, a distance (r) from the turning center point formed by the shaft 10 and the bearing 11 till the read head gap 6 of the read chip 4 is selected to be smaller sufficiently with respect to a radius R of the face of the read chip 4 brought into contact with the magnetic tape 12. Further, the height H from the center turning point to the gap 6 of the read head is selected to be smaller than the distance (r).
