PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a hearth roller and to prevent the sticking of oxide by cooling a ceramic layer on the surface of the roller through a heat insulating layer so as to keep the surface of the roller at a temp. close to the temp. of a furnace without causing supercooling. CONSTITUTION:A hearth roller is composed of a roller core material 1 and a sleeve 3. The core material 1 has a cooling water path 2 along the axis in the longitudinal direction. A ceramic layer 4 of 40-800mum thickness is formed on the outside of the sleeve 3 by spray coating and a heat insulating layer 5 having 2-4kcal/m.H. deg.C coefft. of heat insulation is formed between the core material 1 and the sleeve 3.
