PURPOSE:To surely and accurately estimate the cold strength of coke obtd. by carbonization in the stage of coking coal, by estimating the cold strength of coke based on the relationship between the cold strength of coke and the max. flow temp. and solidifying temp. of coking coal. CONSTITUTION:The relationship between the cold strength DI15<30> of coke obtd. by carbonization of coking coal and the max. flow temp. Tm and solidifying temp. Tr of the coking coal as determined according to the Gieseler fluidity test is attained by equation I or II. In estimating the cold strength of coke to be obtd. from a certain kind of coking coal, the Gieseler fluidity test of the coking coal is conducted to determine Tm and Tr. The obtd. values of Tm and Tr are substituted for equation I or II, thereby estimating the cold strength of coke. Individual symbols in the equations I and II stand for the meanings of the formula III. According to this method, the cold strength of coke obtd. by carbonization can be simply estimated by determining the values of Tm and Tr through the Gieseler fluidity test, which enables elimination of the step of the carbonization test.
