PURPOSE:To produce a gasket having improved airtightness and strength by compacting and sintering powder, blanking the sintered body to a prescribed shape, placing a low melting metal thereon, infiltering the same and subjecting the surface to flat pressing. CONSTITUTION:Metallic powder 1 such as iron powder, Al powder or Ti powder is compacted by a tapping method, etc. to form a green compact 2 which is then sintered at 1000-1300 deg.C or tentatively sintered at >=400 deg.C. The sintered body or tentatively sintered body 4 is blanked 5 to the prescribed shape and the plate or powder low melting metal 6 consisting of Cu, Pb, Zn, etc., is placed at the desired point of the blanked article and is infiltered at 600-1200 deg.C by which the infiltered body 7 is formed. The surface of the infiltered body 7 is then subjected to flat pressing, by which the gasket having the improved airtightness and strength is inexpensively produced.
