PURPOSE:To improve defects of a compound having a fog uncleus and to enhance sensitivity and image quality by incorporating a specified compound in at least one of a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layers. CONSTITUTION:At least one of the photosensitive silver halide emulsion layers formed on a support contains a compound to be allowed to release a diffusive development inhibitor or its precursor by the coupling reaction with the oxidation product of a color developing agent, and this emulsion layer and/or its adjacent layer contains a silver halide emulsion layer having internal fog unclei. The diffusivity of the development inhibiting group is obtained by exposing both of a sample having a green-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer formed on the support or its protective layer each freed of silver iodobromide, to white light using an optical wedge, and processing them for a prescribed developing time, thus permitting the obtained photosensitive material to be enhanced in sensitivity and image quality, especially, sharpness.
