PURPOSE:To shorten stages for manufacturing a gear and to remarkably reduce the cost of manufacture by heat treating a spheroidal graphite cast iron blank for a gear provided with a tooth profile having left finishing allowance under specified conditions and by working the tooth profile. CONSTITUTION:A spheroidal graphite cast iron blank for a gear provided with a tooth profile having left finishing allowance is austempered by heating to 830-900 deg.C, holding for 0.5-3hr, quenching to 300-450 deg.C and holding for >=0.5hr to form a bainite-austenite mixed structure as the matrix structure. The blank is then form-rolled. at ordinary temp. to manufacture a gear.
