PURPOSE:To make it possible to close an upper unit without touching an original platen by hand and to prevent the breakage and stain of a contact glass by stopping the original platen at a position where the center of gravity of the original platen gets near the fulcrum of rocking of the upper unit. CONSTITUTION:The lower end of an original platen stopper 11 that can go in and out the passage of moving of an original platen is pivoted to the free end of a rocking arm 13 by a shaft 12. The rocking arm 13 is supported to an upper unit 2a by a shaft 14 to allow freely rockingly, and the habit of rocking in the direction that makes the original platen stopper 11 run into the passage of moving of the original platen is given to the rocking arm 13 by a spring 15. The extent of rocking of the original platen stopper 11 is restricted by a pair of pins 16 fixed to the rocking arm 13. The opening stop position is made to balance the rotation torque of a torsion spring 29 and the weight of an upper unit 2a approximately. Thereby, the original platen can be opened and closed without pushing a contact glass with hand, and the breakage and stain of the contact glass can be prevented.
