In hot forming by rolling, forging, extruding or pressing high-speed tool-steel, the steel is heated to a temperature not in excess of its Ac 1 point and no more than 120‹ C. below the Ac 1 point and then hot formed. Due to heat generated during the forming operation the work-temperature may rise above the Ac 1 point but not up to the Ac 3 point. The best starting temperature within the range can be found by rolling, upsetting, hot tensile or hot-. twisting tests.</p> |
