PURPOSE:To try to shorten an exhaust pipe by forming an exhaust passage between two rows of cylinders of an engine body in order to communicate respective exhaust ports, which open to combustion chambers of a plurality of cylinders, with said exhaust passage for connecting an exhaust pipe to the opening end of the exhaust passage. CONSTITUTION:A vertical internal combustion engine for an outboard motor is provided with two crank shafts 4, 5 parallel to each other, and cylinders 10 (sunscript omitted) are arranged in two rows in relation to said crank shafts 4, 5 on a cylinder block 1. In this case, a plurality of exhaust ports 26 communicating with a plurality of combustion chambers 24 are communicatingly provided on one exhaust passage 29. Said exhaust passage 29 is laid across the cylinder block 1 and a cylinder head 2 between the cylinders 10, 10 corresponding to the two crank shafts 4,5 in order to be formed roughly parallelly to the crank shafts 4, 5. And, an exhaust pipe separated from an engine body E is connected to the opening bottom end, and said exhaust pipe is extended roughly vertically downward in order to be communicated with an exhaust chamber.
