PURPOSE:To reduce a cost, and to miniaturize a device, by utilizing a light source used in a recording and reproducing means as the light source of an optical pickup position detecting means. CONSTITUTION:In an optical recording and reproducing device 11, an optical pickup PU14 is arranged facing with a recording medium disk 13 rotated and driven with a spindle motor 12. The PU14 is driven with a linear motor 18 consisting of a magnet 15, a yoke 16, and a coil 17. A laser diode 21 is contained in the vessel of the PU14 as the light source, and a light flux emitted from the laser 21 is condensed through optical devices 21-27, and 29, and is projected on a disk 13, and a reflected light quantity is varied according to the presence/absence of a bit corresponding to the recording information. The reflected light flux of the disk 13 is condensed 31, and is received with an information optical detector 32. An incident light flux reflected with a half mirror 24 is condensed with a position detecting condenser lens 36, and is projected on a scale 37. A part of light passed through the mirror 24, out of the light flux reflected and condensed 36 with the scale 37 is received with a position detecting detector 38. |
