NEW MATERIAL:A naphthalene-1,4-substituted substance shown by formula I (R<1> is H or CH3; R<2> is 1-4C alkyl, acryloyl, methacryloyl or benzyl]. EXAMPLE:1,4-Diacryloyloxynaphthalene. USE:A sensitizer for providing a heat-sensitive recording material having higher sensitivity. PREPARATION:A naphthol derivative shown by formula II (R<3> is H or each group in R<2>) is reacted with acrylic acid or methacrylic acid halide in an aqueous medium and/or an organic medium in the presence of a basic substance to give a compound shown by formula I. Since the compound has 60-100 deg.C melting point and high compatibility with dye and a developer, it is suitable as a developer, has low sublimation properties and is stable.
