PURPOSE:To record and reproduce spiral data by giving the second index signal to a host system earlier only by the time to give a seeking command and an R/W command of the data to a magnetic disk device. CONSTITUTION:An index signal to occur from the index mark of the recording media of a disk is given to a disk controller 2 as the first index signal 6, and thus, a controller 2 can know the head position of a physical sector. For a magnetic disk device 1, a host system 3 gives a seeking command and an R/W command of the data to the controller 2 and the controller 2 gives the second index signal 8 to the system 3 prior to the signal 6 earlier by the time only to execute the processing. The signal 8 can be easily generated by the counting of the timer of the sector pulse based on the signal 6.
